Imphal, July 14: The violence in Manipur continues unabated with yet another violent incident occurring on Sunday. In Jiribam district, a joint team of Manipur Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was ambushed by unidentified armed assailants, resulting in the death of a CRPF jawan.

The ambush occurred around 9:40 AM when unknown gunmen targeted the 20th Battalion of the CRPF and a team from Manipur Police. According to sources, the attack happened while the security team was conducting a search operation near Monbung village. This operation was linked to a shooting incident that took place on July 13, highlighting the deteriorating security situation amid the ongoing ethnic violence that started in May 2023.

The fallen CRPF jawan has been identified as 43-year-old Ajay Kumar Jha from Bihar. In addition to the fatality, three others were injured, including a sub-inspector from the Jiribam police station. The authorities have expressed concerns about the increasing violence in the state and the significant threat it poses to security forces operating in the region.

The continuing violence in Manipur has made the security situation extremely precarious, with frequent clashes and attacks challenging the law enforcement agencies’ efforts to maintain peace. The attack on the joint team of Manipur Police and CRPF underscores the high risk faced by security personnel in the state.

The authorities are investigating thoroughly to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind this ambush. In the meantime, security measures have been intensified to prevent further incidents and to ensure the safety of the residents and security personnel in the region.
