Anantnag(Jammu and Kashmir): A new batch of 4383 yatris embarked on the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas early Thursday morning. According to an official report, the group, comprising 2158 men, 439 women, 3 children, 67 sadhus, and 15 sadhvis, set off towards the revered cave shrine in 157 vehicles.

The Amarnath Yatra continues on two main routes: Baltal and Pahalgam. The 20th batch of pilgrims departed from the twin base camps in Baltal and Nunwan, beginning their ascent to the 3880-meter-high cave shrine nestled in the south Kashmir Himalayas. Out of the latest batch, 1701 pilgrims chose the Baltal route, while 2682 opted for the Pahalgam axis, traveling in 66 and 91 vehicles respectively.

Weather Forecast for Amarnath Yatra

The meteorological department has forecasted moderate rain in the vicinity of the Amarnath Cave shrine, including areas like Panjtarni and Pishutop. A fresh weak Western Disturbance is expected to impact Jammu and Kashmir starting Thursday, potentially bringing rain and thundershowers, particularly in the Jammu region. This weather change is likely to cause a slight drop in day temperatures in the region, with a 25-30% chance of widespread rain.

Journey Details

The Amarnath cave, located at an altitude of 3,888 meters, is accessible only on foot or by pony. Pilgrims can reach the shrine via the Anantnag-Pahalgam axis or the Ganderbal-Sonamarg-Baltal axis. The Pahalgam route, which spans approximately 36-48 km, takes 3-5 days to cover and is considered easier and less steep compared to other paths.

Duration of the Yatra
