Jammu: In a tragic incident on Monday afternoon, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector was killed, and three other jawans were injured when terrorists opened fire on a joint patrol party in the Cheel area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred in the remote Dudu area of Basantgarh, around 3:30 pm, officials confirmed.

Details of the Attack

The CRPF personnel, part of the 187th battalion, were on an area domination patrol alongside the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police when unidentified terrorists ambushed them. During the exchange of fire, the inspector sustained a bullet injury and, despite efforts to save him, succumbed to his wounds while being transported to the hospital.

Official Statement and Ongoing Operations

The Udhampur Police confirmed the incident through their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, “During area domination patrol at Chill, Dudu, an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and joint parties of JKP and CRPF. In the encounter, one Inspector of CRPF suffered bullet injuries & has attained martyrdom. Operation continues.”

Reinforcements have been dispatched to the area, and a cordon and search operation is currently underway to locate and neutralize the terrorists involved in the attack. The terrorists reportedly fled the scene after facing strong retaliation from the joint forces.
