National Desk, Jan 31: In a historic address to a joint sitting of Parliament on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu lauded India’s economic performance in 2023, declaring it the fastest-growing major economy amidst global turmoil.
“The year 2023 was a historic year for India, when it grew the fastest among major economies despite global crisis,” Murmu stated, pointing to the consecutive quarters of 7.8% and 7.6% growth achieved during the current fiscal year.
This robust economic performance solidifies India’s position as a beacon of stability and growth in the face of global headwinds. The resilience exhibited by the Indian economy is particularly noteworthy considering the significant challenges posed by geopolitical tensions and inflationary pressures.
Murmu’s address also shed light on the government’s commitment to alleviating poverty and building a stronger India. “We heard the slogan of ‘Gareebi Hatao’ since our childhood,” she remarked, “Today, for the first time in our lives, we see poverty being alleviated on a large scale.”
The President’s words resonated with the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, which commenced with her address. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the interim Union Budget on Thursday, outlining the government’s financial plans for the coming year.
President Murmu’s address served as a timely reminder of India’s economic achievements and the government’s dedication to building a brighter future for its citizens. With continued focus on development and social welfare, India is poised to maintain its impressive economic trajectory and emerge as a global leader in the 21st century.
