Guwahati, Feb 5: The fight against exam malpractices in Assam takes a decisive turn with the introduction of the Assam Exam Bill 2024. This bill, officially named the Assam Public Examination Bill (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment), 2024, was tabled by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the first day of the state assembly’s budget session. The bill aims to curb unfair practices through stricter penalties and wider coverage.
This move comes amidst concerns about incidents like the HSLC exam question paper leak in the previous year. The Assam Exam Bill 2024 directly addresses such issues by:
- Prohibiting unauthorized possession of question papers by candidates. This means you can’t keep the paper after the exam.
- Cracking down on question paper leaks: Printing can only happen in government-authorized presses, and selling or sharing papers becomes a punishable offense.
- Penalizing those who help candidates cheat during exams. This includes providing unauthorized assistance or materials.
Wider Application for Fairer Examinations:
The Assam Exam Bill 2024 doesn’t stop there. It applies to a broad range of government-conducted examinations, including:
- Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) exams
- Gauhati High Court exams
- State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC) direct recruitment for Grade III and IV exams
- HSLC and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) exams
- Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) exams, and more
This comprehensive approach ensures a level playing field and discourages malpractices across various levels of recruitment and education in Assam. The Assam Exam Bill 2024 sends a clear message: cheating and leaks will not be tolerated, and violators will face heavy consequences.
