Haldwani, Uttarakhand, February 10: Five people were arrested and 19 others named in FIRs following violence that erupted in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, after an anti-encroachment drive on February 8th. The clashes resulted in five deaths and injuries to several police officers and civilians.

Three FIRs have been registered, naming 19 individuals and including an additional 5,000 unidentified people. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting searches to identify and apprehend those involved in the violence.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condemned the attack on police personnel and ordered strict action against the perpetrators. He visited the affected area and instructed authorities to maintain peace and law and order.

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law & Order AP Anshuman stated the situation is under control and curfew has been lifted in most areas except Banbhoolpura, where the violence originated. Security forces have been deployed to maintain peace and prevent further unrest.

Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi also visited the area and emphasized maintaining constant vigilance and prioritizing public safety. The state government issued a high alert across the state, while internet services and educational institutions in the affected district remain suspended.

The incident highlights the complex issue of encroachment and the challenges faced during demolition drives. Authorities are working to restore normalcy and ensure a thorough investigation into the violence.
