News Desk, Feb 15: Veteran actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan has once again stepped into the political arena, filing her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections with the backing of the Samajwadi Party (SP). This marks her fifth consecutive term in the Upper House, solidifying her longstanding tenure as an SP member since 2004.

In her election affidavit, the 75-year-old Jaya Bachchan revealed a staggering joint wealth of Rs 1,578 crore, inclusive of assets shared with her husband, renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan. The declaration encompasses a diverse portfolio, ranging from immovable properties to movable assets, highlighting their financial prowess in the public domain.

The breakdown of their combined assets unveils a significant holding, with movable property valued at Rs 849.11 crore and immovable property at Rs 729.77 crore, as disclosed in Jaya Bachchan’s affidavit submitted for the financial year 2022-’23.

For the same fiscal year, Jaya Bachchan reported a personal net worth of Rs 1.63 crore, contrasting with Amitabh Bachchan’s declared net worth of Rs 273.74 crore. Additionally, the Bachchan couple maintains substantial bank balances, with Jaya Bachchan holding Rs 10.11 crore and Amitabh Bachchan Rs 120.45 crore.

The disclosure also sheds light on their luxurious lifestyle, with Jaya Bachchan owning jewellery valued at Rs 40.97 crore and a car worth Rs 9.82 lakh. In comparison, Amitabh Bachchan boasts jewellery worth Rs 54.77 crore and an impressive collection of 16 vehicles, including luxury cars, valued at Rs 17.66 crore.

The source of the Bachchan couple’s wealth stems from various avenues, including professional endorsements, parliamentary salary, and income generated from interest, rent, dividends, capital gains, and revenue from a solar plant, as outlined in their election affidavit.

Amidst the political landscape, the Samajwadi Party’s strategic move to nominate Jaya Bachchan for the Rajya Sabha polls reinforces their stronghold in Uttar Pradesh politics. With 108 MLAs in the 403-member state assembly, the SP aims to secure two Rajya Sabha seats, reflecting their calculated approach towards parliamentary representation.
