News Desk, Feb 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a ceremonial welcome and engaged in significant diplomatic discussions during his visit to Doha, Qatar. On the second day of his official trip, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, along with the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

PM Modi’s visit to Doha follows his inauguration of the first Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi and a series of bilateral meetings with regional leaders. Upon his arrival, PM Modi met with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to explore avenues for strengthening ties between India and Qatar.

During the bilateral meeting with the Amir of Qatar, PM Modi emphasized the need to enhance cooperation in various sectors including trade, investment, energy, finance, and technology. Both leaders also discussed recent developments in the West Asia region, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace and stability.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the discussions, stating, “Had a wonderful meeting with PM @MBA_AlThani_. Our discussions revolved around ways to boost India-Qatar friendship.”

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting between PM Modi and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in energy, commerce, and investment sectors.

The Qatar Foreign Ministry echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. They emphasized the significance of collaboration in areas such as energy, commerce, and investment for the benefit of both nations.

Prime Minister Modi also attended a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Qatar, further cementing the partnership between India and Qatar.

The visit to Qatar comes shortly after a diplomatic victory for India, as eight Indian Navy veterans who were sentenced to death in Qatar on espionage charges were released. Seven of the veterans have returned to India, with arrangements being made for the return of the eighth individual.
