Pune, February 21: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Pune Police have seized illicit substances worth over Rs 3,200 crore in coordinated operations spanning Pune and Delhi. The recent seizures mark a substantial blow to the illegal drug trade network operating across state boundaries.

The latest operation, spearheaded by Pune Police, resulted in the confiscation of 600 kilograms of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MD) drugs valued at Rs 1,200 crore from locations in Delhi. This follows on the heels of a previous seizure of a similar quantity of drugs from Pune and Kurkumbh in Pune district.

According to a senior official, the Pune Police’s proactive measures yielded fruitful results with the apprehension of three suspects in connection with the drug trafficking activities. The seized contraband, amounting to a staggering Rs 1,100 crore, was recovered from Vishrantwadi and Kurkumbh areas of Pune during a meticulously planned operation on February 20.

In addition to the Delhi haul, authorities also seized drugs worth Rs 800 crore from the national capital, underscoring the widespread nature of the illicit drug trade network. Earlier, on February 18, a separate operation led to the seizure of 2 kilograms of MD from the Somwar Peth area in Pune.

The intensified crackdown on drug trafficking comes in the wake of Amitesh Kumar assuming office as the new Police Commissioner of Pune. Under his leadership, the Pune Police launched a concerted campaign titled ‘Drugs Free Pune,’ aiming to eradicate drug-related activities from the city.

Praising the efforts of the Pune Police, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended his congratulations and assured support from other states in combating the drug menace. A senior official revealed that a team from the crime branch ventured to New Delhi, resulting in the seizure of an additional 600 kilograms of MD drugs valued at Rs 1,200 crore.

The arrested individuals face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigations led to a raid on a factory in Kurkumbh, Pune district, where the illicit drugs were reportedly manufactured and stored.

The recent successes in dismantling drug trafficking operations underscore the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal substances, contributing to the broader goal of maintaining public safety and security.
