Guwahati, March 2: In anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam has embarked on a robust organizational drive. Under the leadership of state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, the party has established a State Election Management Committee, encompassing 38 sub-committees, to streamline election operations.

Pabitra Margherita, a Member of Parliament from Assam in the Rajya Sabha, has been entrusted with the pivotal role of overseeing the State Election Management Committee. This move underscores the BJP’s strategic approach towards the upcoming polls.

The formation of the management committee aims to ensure meticulous planning and execution of election-related activities across the state. Each sub-committee within the setup comprises a chief and three deputy chiefs, appointed by the state BJP leadership.

The BJP’s state president, Bhabesh Kalita, is spearheading the committee’s efforts. Alongside, Pabitra Margherita serves as the coordinator of the Election Management Committee. Noteworthy appointments include Pulak Gohain and Konnad Purakayastha as deputy coordinators, while Manoj Baruah and Dewan Dhrubajyoti Morol have been assigned responsibilities in the media department.

The committee’s scope extends to various aspects such as law and election committee, advertising, manifesto formulation, and coordination of helicopter and chartered flights. With 38 sub-committees in place, the State Election Management Committee reflects BJP’s thorough preparation for the forthcoming elections.

In recent developments, discussions regarding potential candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Assam have gained momentum. Names of likely contenders from different constituencies have surfaced, with individuals like Bijulee Kalita Medhi from Guwahati, Sarbananda Sonowal from Dibrugarh, Ranjit Dutta from Sonitpur, and Dilip Saikia from Darrang-Udalguri being considered.

Moreover, figures like Kamakhya Prasad Tasa from Kaziranga, Suresh Borah from Nagaon, Tapan Gogoi from Jorhat, and Amarsing Tisso from Diphu, along with Parimal Suklabaidya from Silchar and Kripanath Mallah from Karimganj are also being discussed as potential BJP candidates.
