New Delhi, Jan 30: In a move paving the way for all members to be present during President Murmu’s historic address to Parliament in the new building, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar revoked the suspension of 11 members on January 30. These members, found guilty of breach of privilege by a House panel, were initially barred from attending parliamentary proceedings.

Dhankhar invoked his authority under Rules 202 and 266 of the Rajya Sabha’s Rules of Procedure, enabling the suspended members to be present for the significant event on January 31st. This marks the first time a President will address both Houses of Parliament assembled within the new Parliament building.

The Committee of Privileges had earlier recommended that the members’ existing suspension period be considered sufficient punishment for their transgression. However, recognizing the importance of their participation in the President’s address, the Committee submitted its report to the Chairman, leading to the suspension revocation.

This decision ensures full representation of Rajya Sabha members during the upcoming historic event, allowing them to witness and participate in this significant moment for the Indian Parliament.
