Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of development projects worth Rs 11,599 crore in Guwahati, Assam, on Sunday. These initiatives aim to enhance regional connectivity, create employment opportunities, and promote sports in the state.

Guwahati, Feb 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant day for Assam on February 4th by inaugurating and laying the groundwork for infrastructure projects valued at Rs 11,599 crore in Guwahati. These initiatives are anticipated to significantly improve connectivity within the region, generate employment opportunities for locals, and foster a passion for sports.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised PM Modi’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in the Northeast, stating, “This is a golden day for Assam. Unprecedented peace and prosperity have come to Assam under PM Modi’s leadership. Thousands of young people who had been drawn to militancy and extremism have laid down their arms and rejoined society. We received nine bridges constructed over the Brahmaputra River. This accomplishment was only possible under the leadership and visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana, a key project granted under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, received the Prime Minister’s foundation stone laying. This project intends to offer world-class amenities to pilgrims visiting the Kamakhya temple.

He also laid the foundation stone for numerous road improvement initiatives valued at over Rs 3400 crore, which will involve upgrading 43 roads and 38 bridges as part of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Corridor Connectivity.

The inauguration of two 4-laning projects by Prime Minister Modi, Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, will enhance connectivity to Itanagar and contribute to the region’s overall economic growth.

“With the intention of maximizing the region’s immense sporting potential, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for initiatives to improve the state’s sporting infrastructure. These projects include an international-standard sports stadium in Chandrapur and the upgrading of Nehru stadium to a FIFA-standard football stadium,” according to a previous official announcement from the state government.

Prior to launching the development projects, Prime Minister Modi participated in a roadshow through the Assam capital, where enthusiastic crowds lined the streets and chanted his name. He reciprocated their warm welcome by waving back at them.

This momentous occasion marks a significant step towards bolstering Assam’s infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and nurturing the sporting spirit of its people.
