Nagaon(Assam), Feb 6: In a significant victory against crime, the Nagaon Police have apprehended members of two notorious dacoit gangs responsible for a string of robberies and vehicle thefts plaguing central Assam’s National Highways. Led by Superintendent of Police Navneet Mahanta, the Nagaon Police launched a relentless campaign against the dacoits, culminating in the arrest of several key suspects.

The crackdown comes in response to a recent, horrifying incident where a newlywed couple was attacked and robbed on the Misa, Amoni National Highway in January. The perpetrators, a notorious dacoit gang, stole cash and jewelry from the couple, prompting a police complaint at the Samaguri police station.

Registered under case number 36/24 in the Indian Penal Code (Sections 341/427/326/307/392/34), the Samaguri police initiated an investigation based on the complaint. Acting on Superintendent Mahanta’s strict instructions, the Nagaon and Samaguri police teams collaborated and pursued the case relentlessly.

Following a tip from a confidential source, a joint team from Nagaon and Samaguri police raided a location in Khatuwal, Samaguri, on Monday. The operation successfully apprehended two notorious dacoits: Baharul Islam of Borghat, Rupahihat, and Mujammil Hussain of Kanuamari, Samaguri.

Both apprehended dacoits were presented before the Nagaon court on Monday. However, further information remains undisclosed as the police continue their investigation. The suspects are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation.

Furthermore, the Nagaon Police have successfully apprehended three additional dacoits linked to recent commercial vehicle thefts on the national highway. Identified as Mahmud Hussain, Saiful Islam, and Papu Bora, these individuals are also undergoing intense interrogation while the search for other accomplices continues.

The police have recovered a stolen vehicle and Rs. 1.8 lakh in cash from these three apprehended criminals. The Nagaon Police remain committed to apprehending the remaining gang members and ensuring the safety of the national highways.

This successful crackdown by the Nagaon Police demonstrates their firm commitment to combating crime and protecting the citizens of Assam. The recovered stolen goods and apprehended suspects represent a significant step towards achieving this goal.
