Guwahati, Feb 8: The Education Department in Assam has issued a stern warning to head teachers across the state concerning dress code violations within school premises. This directive comes in response to numerous complaints filed by female teachers regarding the attire of head teachers.
An official notification from the Education Department highlights the concerns raised by several female teachers regarding the disregard of dress codes by head teachers within school premises. This issue prompted the department to address the matter with urgency.
Earlier, in a notification dated August 14, 2023, the department outlined the specific dress code for teachers in educational institutions across Assam. This decision followed observations of teachers wearing attire deemed inappropriate for the educational environment.
Allegations have surfaced accusing head teachers of subjecting female teachers to mental distress despite their compliance with dress codes by wearing salwar suits or traditional attire.
The official notification from the Education Department warns that any gross violation or interference with the Governor’s Order by head teachers will result in severe disciplinary action in accordance with established rules outlined in previous notifications.
Furthermore, female teachers have been encouraged to report any instances of dress code violations to the Inspector of Schools in their respective districts when necessary, as stated in the notification.
Head teachers of all schools in Assam are urged to adhere strictly to the Governor’s notification regarding dress codes. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary measures, including suspension.
The Education Department’s proactive stance underscores its commitment to maintaining a professional and respectful environment within educational institutions across Assam.
