Guwahati, Feb 20: Three minor schoolgirls from Guwahati, who were reported missing since February 17, have been safely located and rescued by the authorities after a three-day search operation. The Pragjyotishpur Police and Panikhaiti Police conducted a joint effort, leading to the successful recovery of the girls.

The girls, students of Raghunath Choudhary Hindi High School in Guwahati’s Birkuchi locality, were identified as Riya Timung of Birkuchi, Rashmi Sonar of Bonda, and Rashmi Sarma of Amingaon localities. The search operation culminated in the girls’ discovery in Kamalajari Gaon village, situated in the Sonapur subdivision of the Kamrup Metropolitan district, on the outskirts of Guwahati City.

Concerns arose when the girls failed to return home after mentioning visiting a friend on February 17. Despite initial assumptions that they were staying over at their friend’s house, worries grew when they did not return even by the following day. Subsequently, their families filed a missing complaint at Pragjyotishpur Police Station.

During the investigation, it was revealed that one of the girls was carrying a cell phone, which was found switched off, amplifying the concerns of the parents and prompting them to file a complaint.

After their rescue, the girls underwent questioning to provide details about their ordeal and shed light on the circumstances surrounding their disappearance. The recent incident adds to a concerning trend of missing cases involving minor girls, raising alarm within the community.

The successful recovery of the three girls highlights the importance of prompt police action and community involvement in addressing such cases. Authorities continue to urge vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities or missing persons’ cases to ensure the safety and security of all individuals, especially minors, in the region.
